Victoria, B.C. based Bows & Arrows Coffee Roasters has opened their first restaurant and café concept on Fraser Street in east Vancouver. Bows X Arrows (BXA) is an extension of the same philosophy that guides the coffee program: make very good things with excellent ingredients from great producers, in a beautiful room with good music.
Designed by Toronto’s MSDS Studio, the restaurant is open and bright, filled with green plants and light wood furniture, including a custom 26-foot long solid fir communal table and light fixtures. The oak floors, simple shelving, clean lines and unadorned white walls make for a modern Scandinavian and West Coast feel, while large south and west facing windows flood the space with natural light.
Shortlisted cocktails reference classics and variations with seasonal relevance. Craft beer on tap and select bottles match the season and promote both new and existing relationships with friends like Brassneck, Daagerad, Four Winds, and Victoria neighbours Hoyne and Driftwood. The wines are a tight selection of favourites and new finds. Like going to the record store to rescue the gems from the stacks then bringing home to play for friends.
The food is overseen by Trevor Pruegger of Birds + Beets and Thomas Haas. The uncomplicated, progressive menus vary slightly each day to highlight freshness and availability of ingredients. Small breakfasts, tartines, pastries and lunch are on offer every day, with full brunch on weekends and dinner Wednesday through Saturday evenings. All baking, fermenting, smoking, pickling and curing is done in-house.
BXA is located at 4194 Fraser St, and is open from 7:30am – 6pm Sunday through Tuesday, 7:30am – 10pm Wednesday & Thursday, 7:30 – 11pm Friday & Saturday.
